NET2PNT Documantion File
Written by Yossi Gottlieb, 1991.
Version 1.16
General
─────────
If you're using a real point, you must have already know that you can't
configure your mailer's address to your real point address. Mail packets
are addressed by nets and nodes (In the packet's file name - the 4 first
characters are the net, in hex, and the 4 last characters are the node,
in hex.), and there is no way to mark a packet with a point number.
Using EchoMail, this makes no problems at all. But when you want
somebody to send you a netmail, you have a big problem. The sender
enters the address, for example 2:403/122.3, but when the message is
being exported, it will lose it's point number (.3), because of the
reason I exaplined. The message, which should go to 2:403/122.3, will go
to 2:403/122, your BOSS, and will stay there until it's being deleted,
or being received by you - but ONLINE. This is the point where NET2PNT
comes in.
NET2PNT traps messages for a specific person on a specific board (the
NetMails board), and routes them to his point (i.e. to his fake
address). When NET2PNT traps a NetMail message, which is NOT marked as
"sent", and is addressed to one of the names which are defined in the
ROUTE statement (which will be discussed later), it will change the
destination address of the message to the point's fake address. After
the address has been changed, the message will be marked as "pending
NetMail message". In this way, NET2PNT will cause the mail processor to
send the NetMail to to fake address (i.e. include it together with the
EchoMail package). After the processor has sent the message, it will be
no longer marked as pending, and the person will not receive the message
to his point again.
For Example, if you set in your route statement such as record:
ROUTE Yossi Gottlieb 1000/3, Every NetMail message, which was NOT sent
before, will be marked as 1000/3, and will be packeted to that address.
Then, when 1000/3 calls to poll his mail, he will receive the netmail
packet as well as his normal EchoMail packets.
Configuration
───────────────
NET2PNT's configuration is very easy, and should take 1-2 minutes.
Use your favorite text editor to edit the configuration file. (A demo
configuration file came with the program, to be some kind of example).
NOTE that all lines which begin with ";" are comments, NET2PNT ignores
them.
MsgPath <Path>
<Path> specifies the path where all Hudson message-base file are in.
NetBoard <Board>
<Board> specifies the board number in the message-base where NetMail
messages are in.
Route <FirstName> <LastName> <FakeAddress>
These lines defines where to reroute messages:
FirstName and LastName are the first name and last name of the person,
which netmail to him will be routed to <FakeAddress>
Note that the name MUST be 2 words, not one and not 3, 2 WORDS.
<FakeAddress> is the address to route to messages which are to the
person specified before (in the FirstName and LastName fields).
The maximum number of Route statements is 10. It's not so often that a
BOSS has more than 10 points.
Log
─────
If you one of those paranoids, which don't let their system do anything
without logging, you can relax, NET2PNT has a log option.
If you wish to log the process, enter in the command line /L and after
that the log-name.
For example, NET2PNT /LROUTE.LOG will log to ROUTE.LOG.
Legal Stuff
─────────────
NET2PNT is in the Public Domain. It may be freely distrubuted, copied,
duplicated, transferred etc., but as long is it is in its original form,
unmodified (not even PKLITEed, LZEXEed and so on), including all
documentation, and UNMODIFIED.
You owe the author nothing for using the program, and the same he does
about responsibility. Nobody, but NOBODY is responsible for any damage
loss, or any other bad thing happens because you used (or not used) the
program.
